The bite is changing on us again.  The Dorado run that provided so many quality brown trout has finally, for the most part, dried up.

The fish are scattering and the bugs have the rainbows and browns on fire in the west basin.  Trollers are finding success on the East side pulling spoons from the A-Frame down the Recreation Area 1.  Most of us are in the west basin pulling hardware from Plumas Pines Resort all the way to Goose Bay and beyond.  The bite is a little non standard so far this year.  Although the fish are still biting on the old red and gold speedy shiner, Chartreuse has come into the limelight of recent.  I have been having good success with Nickle spoons with a variety of attached tapes and paints, such as chartreuse, green, florescent oranges, blues you name it.  Red Dot Frog, an old favorite is falling flat for me.  The fantastic wonder bread white with varying dots, nada.  I mean, don't get me wrong.  Every box should have an assortment of these and I'm still tossing them out from time to time, but they're just not working for me like last year.  The depth currently is a little quirky as well.  Usually we just sink a presentation to 14' and we're good, right?  The action seems to still be in the top 10' of the water column with 6' to 8' being pretty reliable and then for the more adventurous there is a bite down about 25' with fishing biting in decent numbers.  As of yet, the size of these fish are still in the smaller class with most coming in around 16" to 18".

Slow trolling the red banks is pretty flat, but look for this to change as the waters continue to warm with the onset of summer.

Good luck out there.
