Currently we have beautiful weather up here at Lake Almanor.  We are looking at a cool down this weekend.  Perhaps there is a little snow in our Saturday future?  Spring is in the air.  This tells me that anything can happen.  We'll just have to look outside when the sun comes up.  Beyond that, things are really forecast to start warming up.

Water temps are increasing with the abundant sunshine.  The roadways are mostly clear into the basin.  There's been delays on 32, 36 and 70.  Delays should probably be expected throughout summer as wildfire repairs and rock slide recovery continues in our area.

Of interest Plumas Pines is hosting a kayak bass fishing tournament this year.  It's scheduled for May 17th.

Conditions are changing rapidly on the lake.  The Hamilton Branch has begun to run clear.  Clarity in the lake on the north is improving rapidly.  Fly fishing has improved tremendously and bank fishing has begun below the first riffle.  Fish bites are going off randomly around the lake in a hit and miss manner.  Heavy flows have the super ditch running.  Bailey Creek is pouring into the lake solidly.  The midge flies are heavy at times and fly anglers are targeting fish under indicators throughout the lake in no more than 20' of water.  The great Rapala bite is slowing and the shallows have become a target rich environment for Small Mouth Bass.

Trout have begun to congregate around Bailey Creek and 18" rainbows are getting pummeled by bait anglers fishing near the bottom.  Trollers are finding mixed results throughout the lake with most of the positive results being reported in the East basin.  The fish, for the time being, remain shallow.  Fishing in the top 10' of the water column continues to be rewarding on the troll.

We'll see what this quick cool down brings.  For now, the lake is really coming to life and the bugs are hatching in great numbers.

Good luck.
